Students create 6, graphic design styled drawings using color pencils and drawing tools such as rulers, compasses or other tracing mechanism. They are studies based on Pattern (Principle of Design), Color, Shape and Value (Elements of Art).
Project CRITERIA: (What your projects are grade on) 1. Each cell is a study in one pattern of a SHAPE that can be repeated, overlapped and enlarged to go "off screen" or out of view. 2. Complementary color sets are used in each cell. Color "inversions" are needed to make each cell look individualize and unique to the others. 3. Geometric Shapes, an Organic Shape and a "Choice Shape" are needed for the assignment. 4. The use of VALUE, or shading from light to dark, is needed in the assignment. THE 4 MAIN AREAS this project covers: 1.COLOR - 2. SHAPE - 3. VALUE (ELEMENTS OF ART) AND 4. PATTERN (Principle of Design) As always; "HQ - High Quality" / "Museum Quality" artworks or "Wall Ready" artworks are what we're looking for. |
Shapes & Color
Shapes are repeated, overlapped and change size. This example has blue and orange as the color set using circles as the Geometric Shape choice.
|
Organic Shapes / Value
Organic shapes are curvy and remind us of life. Backgrounds and shapes should have a VALUE change (shading from light to dark) in each cell.
|
Color "Inversions"
Color "inversions" are needed to make each cell look individualized and unique to the others. In these 2 examples, the first cell has the shapes in YELLOW and background in PURPLE. The second cell has the shapes purple and the background yellow.
